Linebacker De’Vondre Campbell’s refusal to enter Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Rams has resulted in a three-game suspension from the San Francisco 49ers. The announcement came from General Manager John Lynch following the 49ers' 12-6 loss to the Rams.

Campbell, who lost his starting position to a returning Dre Greenlaw, was asked to enter the game due to Greenlaw experiencing Achilles tendon soreness. Head Coach Kyle Shanahan stated that Campbell declined to play without providing an explanation and indicated that Campbell is not expected to remain with the team beyond Week 15. The team is currently determining the specifics of his departure.

Campbell joined the 49ers on a one-year contract during the offseason while Greenlaw recovered from an Achilles injury sustained during the Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Prior to joining the 49ers, Campbell played three seasons with the Green Bay Packers, one with the Arizona Cardinals, and four with the Atlanta Falcons. In the 2023 season, he recorded 75 tackles and a pass breakup.

This incident leaves the 49ers with a 6-8 record as they navigate the remainder of the season without Campbell.
