An active shooter situation is currently developing in Weirton, West Virginia, prompting a significant response from law enforcement agencies. A Special Response Team has been deployed to address the threat and work towards neutralizing the situation.
The Weirton Police Department, along with the Brooke County Sheriff's Department, West Virginia State Police, and Hancock County EMS, are present at the scene. Deputy Chief Scott Cook of the Weirton Police is leading the law enforcement response.
Authorities have established communication with the suspect, who, at this time, remains resistant to surrendering. Negotiations are presumably ongoing.
