Airman Killed, Another Injured in Shooting at Kirtland Air Force Base

An early Saturday morning shooting incident just outside Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico, resulted in the death of one airman and injuries to another. The 377th Security Forces Squadron responded to the incident at the base's Truman Gate around 2 a.m. One airman was found deceased at the scene, while a second airman sustained a hand injury and has since been released from the hospital.

The Air Force has stated that the shooting stemmed from an incident that led to an off-base pursuit. A joint investigation involving the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, the FBI, and the Albuquerque Police Department is underway. Authorities have confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public. The identity of the shooter and any potential custody status have not been released. Albuquerque police spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos indicated to the Associated Press that police are not actively searching for additional suspects. The Air Force has clarified that the incident was not an external attack or related to terrorism.
