Brian Cox Critiques Woke Culture and Historical Revisionism

In a recent interview with Piers Morgan on Fox Nation, "Succession" star Brian Cox shared his candid views on woke culture, historical revisionism, and the impact of social media. He expressed his disapproval of what he perceives as an excessive tendency to rewrite or ignore history, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging the past to understand the present.

Cox criticized the practice of issuing trigger warnings, citing the example of a theater production of "The Sound of Music" that cautioned audiences about references to Nazis and the annexation of Austria. He argued against such measures, stating that they attempt to "rewrite history" and prevent audiences from confronting important historical events.

Cox also expressed his concern about what he sees as a culture of shaming on social media, particularly driven by "woke" ideology. He questioned the authority of those who engage in this behavior, suggesting that it often originates from a misplaced sense of righteousness. Morgan echoed Cox's sentiments, denouncing the "incessant need to shame and bury people."

The conversation then turned to the recent controversy surrounding alterations to Roald Dahl's books. Cox condemned these changes, labeling them as "complete ignorance" and an attempt to impose subjective judgments on what is considered acceptable. He also reiterated his past defense of J.K. Rowling against accusations of transphobia, emphasizing a woman's right to express her views on her own body.

Furthermore, Cox reiterated his stance against the idea that actors should only portray characters who share their identities. He dismissed this notion as "absolute b—s," asserting that acting relies on imagination and should not be limited by such restrictions.
