California Murderer Escapes Custody During Courthouse Transfer

A convicted murderer, Caesar Hernandez, 34, escaped from California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation custody on Monday while being transported to a courthouse located near 10th Avenue and Kensington Street. Hernandez, serving a 25-years-to-life sentence for first-degree murder, managed to escape the transport van. He was originally sentenced under California's three-strikes law.

At the time of his escape, Hernandez was wearing an orange jumpsuit and white thermals. He is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing approximately 161 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. The Delano Police Department and other law enforcement agencies are actively involved in the search.

Authorities consider Hernandez dangerous and urge anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact local law enforcement immediately by dialing 911 or contacting Lt. Anthony Sotello, the Incident Commander, at (661) 721-6300 extension 5506. The CDCR has stated that since 1977, they have a 99% apprehension rate for escaped inmates.
