Capitol Police Recruit Dies in Georgia Car Crash, Several Others Injured

A tragic car accident in Glynn County, Georgia, claimed the life of a U.S. Capitol Police recruit over the weekend, leaving several others injured. The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. on Saturday, according to the U.S. Capitol Police.

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Ranking Member Joe Morelle confirmed the death of Recruit Officer Christopher Katz on Monday, expressing their condolences and prayers for his family. They also acknowledged the other injured recruits and extended their hopes for a speedy recovery.

The Capitol Police statement revealed that five other recruit officers were injured in the crash, which occurred while they were off-duty during their training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Brunswick, Georgia. The injured recruits were reportedly transported to Jacksonville, Florida, for medical care.

The Georgia State Police are currently investigating the accident. The Capitol Police have made wellness resources available to their department members in response to this tragedy. The recruits had joined the department in November.
