Celebrity Endorsements Fail to Sway Voters, Nikki Glaser Roasts Hollywood at Golden Globes

Comedian Nikki Glaser didn't hold back at the Golden Globes, using her opening monologue to poke fun at the influence (or lack thereof) of celebrity political endorsements. Referencing the recent presidential election, Glaser highlighted how big-name endorsements seemingly had little impact on the outcome.

Glaser's commentary comes after several A-list celebrities publicly supported Vice President Kamala Harris's presidential bid. Despite the star-studded backing, Harris lost to Donald Trump. This outcome fueled discussions on programs like "Fox News Saturday Night" about the effectiveness of celebrity endorsements in swaying public opinion.

Glaser's monologue echoed this sentiment, suggesting that Hollywood's political endorsements might not carry the weight they once did. "I am not here to roast you tonight… How could I, really? You’re all so famous, so talented, so powerful. I mean, you could really do anything… Except tell the country who to vote for," she quipped, drawing laughter from the audience. She followed up with a slightly more apprehensive, "But it’s okay! You’ll get them next time! If there is one. I’m scared."

In August, after being announced as the Golden Globes host, Glaser expressed her intention to follow in the footsteps of previous hosts like Ricky Gervais, known for their pointed humor directed at the celebrity audience. She stated her desire to "tell truths" even if it risked career repercussions.

Glaser's Golden Globes performance certainly lived up to her promise, providing a memorable and thought-provoking opening to the awards ceremony.
