Could the Gilgo Beach Suspect Have Used a Boat to Dispose of Bodies?

In December 2010, the remains of four young women were discovered along Gilgo Beach. Rex Heuermann, a 59-year-old architect and avid duck hunter, has been identified as the prime suspect in these killings. Given his proximity to a boat ramp and familiarity with the local waterways, investigators are exploring the possibility that Heuermann may have used a boat to transport and dispose of the victims' bodies.

Former NYPD Inspector Paul Mauro suggests that using a water route could have been a less conspicuous method than transporting bodies by vehicle, especially considering the challenges of navigating Ocean Parkway with a body and the frequent police presence in the area. Heuermann reportedly co-owned a duck boat and possessed a hunting license, further supporting this theory.

The bay side of Gilgo Beach is easily accessible from a boat ramp near Heuermann's residence. A channel connects Amityville to the back of Gilgo Beach, leading to a sandy area close to where one of the victims was found. Photos of Heuermann's vehicle reveal a tow hitch, indicating the potential to transport a small boat.

Duck hunter and guide Anthony Babich confirms the feasibility of using a small boat for such a purpose, particularly at night, due to the secluded nature of the area. He emphasizes Heuermann's deep familiarity with the local terrain, suggesting that Heuermann's father may have introduced him to the area. Babich also highlights the treacherous nature of the marshland, which could have further concealed the bodies.
