Florida Man Accused of Assaulting Wife's Lover with Baseball Bat

A Florida man, John Dimmig, 33, is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly attacking his wife's coworker with a baseball bat. The incident occurred on June 17th at a Lake Worth Beach Airbnb, where Dimmig allegedly discovered his wife, Christie Barbato, with another man.

According to police reports and surveillance footage, Dimmig entered the Airbnb and confronted the man, striking him multiple times with a metal baseball bat. Barbato's pleas and intervention reportedly stopped the assault. The victim, a CT technologist visiting from Arizona, sustained significant head injuries and stated he believed Dimmig intended to kill him.

Upon arrival, police found the injured man and subsequently interviewed both Barbato and Dimmig. Dimmig denied involvement, claiming he hadn't left his home except for a grocery store trip. However, police found evidence contradicting his alibi, including a bat with hair embedded in it, potentially blood-stained clothing, and traffic camera footage placing his vehicle near the Airbnb shortly before the attack.

Dimmig has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and burglary with battery. He has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting his next court appearance. Barbato, also a CT technologist, reportedly met the victim for drinks earlier that evening before going to the Airbnb. Attempts to reach both Dimmig and Barbato for comment have been unsuccessful.
