Former Patients of Gender Clinic Express Regret Over Transition Procedures

Several individuals who underwent gender transition procedures, including medical and surgical interventions, are now sharing their stories of regret and the complications they face. One such individual, Jasmine, a former patient at the Travistock gender clinic in the UK, expresses remorse over her transition, stating that it worsened her condition at each stage. She feels a sense of being "mutilated" and like "an experiment gone wrong." Jasmine underwent breast removal surgery at 15 and now envies the natural characteristics of biological women.

Jasmine places some of the responsibility for her situation on the medical professionals who treated her, feeling she relied on their guidance as a child. She doesn't view her experience as a "journey" but rather a mistake facilitated by the adults involved in her care.

The Travistock clinic is currently undergoing significant changes and closure following a critical independent review. Another former patient, Keira Bell, has also publicly criticized the clinic, expressing a desire for more resistance from the staff regarding her transition treatments. Bell, who underwent puberty blockers, testosterone shots, and a double mastectomy, later realized she was not a man and reversed her transition after five years. She now recognizes that her gender dysphoria stemmed from underlying emotional distress rather than being the root cause itself. Bell highlights the potential loss of fertility as a consequence of her treatments, lamenting the possibility of losing the "basic right" to have children. She also experiences lasting effects such as a deepened voice and facial hair.

Bell's experience, and that of others like her, is becoming increasingly common in the Western world, raising questions about the long-term effects and ethical considerations of gender transition interventions, especially for young people.
