A wave of sorrow swept over the NCAA Baseball Super Regionals on Saturday as ESPN announced the passing of Kyle Brown, a dedicated producer who had been part of the ESPN team for over 16 years. Brown, 42, was scheduled to work the game between Wake Forest and Alabama. The news of his passing broke around noon ET.
ESPN released a statement: "On Saturday morning, esteemed ESPN director Kyle Brown experienced a medical emergency and tragically passed away at the NCAA Baseball Super Regional in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. A valued member of our production team for 16 years, Kyle was highly regarded and accomplished, having earned two Sports Emmy Awards while contributing to a wide array of sports productions, from baseball and basketball to ‘Monday Night Football’ and college football."
The statement continued, "A former Ohio State pitcher, Kyle treasured his career in sports. The ESPN family extends our sincerest condolences and unwavering support to Kyle’s loved ones, including his wife, Megan, their four children, Makayla (14), Carson (11), Camden (9), Madyn (6), and their beloved dog, Rookie."
Details surrounding Brown’s death were not immediately available.
Fellow ESPN colleagues expressed their condolences on social media. On Sunday, ESPN's Kris Budden led an on-air tribute to Brown.
