An executive order signed by the governor authorizes $100,000 in emergency funding, aimed at bolstering mental health services and other public health initiatives within the city.

The governor emphasized the enduring impact of such tragedies on communities, highlighting the importance of continued support throughout the recovery process, even after public attention wanes.

New Mexico Governor Supports Farmington After Shooting

Farmington Mayor Nate Duckett expressed his appreciation for the governor's recognition of the multifaceted impact – physical, emotional, and financial – that the May 15th shooting has inflicted upon the community.

The incident involved 18-year-old Beau Wilson, who engaged in a shooting spree within his neighborhood, firing over 190 rounds before being fatally shot by police. The victims included 97-year-old Gwendolyn Dean Schofield and her 73-year-old daughter, Melody Ivie, who were tragically killed while attempting to assist 79-year-old Shirley Voita, another victim of the shooting.
