No Charges Filed Against Wembanyama's Security After Britney Spears Incident

Las Vegas police have concluded their investigation into the alleged altercation between Britney Spears and San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama's security detail, deciding against filing charges. The incident, which occurred at a Las Vegas restaurant, involved Spears approaching Wembanyama for a photo opportunity.

Initial reports suggested Spears was backhanded by a security guard, but differing accounts emerged. While Spears claimed she was struck in the face, causing her glasses to fall off, Wembanyama stated he was unaware of Spears's presence until she grabbed him from behind. Security footage reviewed by police indicated that a security guard, later identified as Spurs Director of Team Security Damian Smith, pushed Spears's hand away, leading to her hand hitting her own face.

Victor Wembanyama addresses the media on June 24, 2023 at AT&T Center in San Antonio.

Wembanyama stated he did not witness the incident directly, as he continued walking into the restaurant. Spears, in her account, mentioned being surrounded by numerous fans that evening but emphasized that her security team did not resort to physical contact with any of them. She expressed disappointment at not receiving an apology from Wembanyama. Spears's husband, Sam Asghari, also spoke out on social media, criticizing the incident and highlighting Spears's respectful treatment of fans throughout her career.
