NYC Mayor Adams Collaborates with Trump's Border Czar on Migrant Crisis

Former Acting ICE Director Tom Homan, appointed by President-elect Trump as border czar, met with New York City Mayor Eric Adams to address the city's migrant influx. Homan expressed satisfaction with the meeting, highlighting Adams' prioritization of public safety over politics. He commended Adams' willingness to collaborate with ICE on deporting illegal immigrants and addressing security concerns, contrasting his approach with other city leaders. Homan revealed that Adams, a former police officer, expressed a commitment to public safety and a desire to assist ICE in apprehending criminal threats and locating missing children. He also indicated that Adams is considering executive orders to reverse some policies enacted by his predecessor. Since the meeting, Homan has been contacted by other mayors and governors interested in similar collaborations. Homan lauded Adams' desire to understand ICE procedures and his willingness to utilize executive orders to overcome obstacles hindering New York City. He noted Adams' intention to facilitate the transfer of criminal aliens from precincts to ICE custody, rather than releasing them into the community. They also discussed leveraging the NYPD's resources and intelligence to identify and apprehend illegal immigrants within the city. Recent reports estimate that New York City houses hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants, including nearly 60,000 with criminal records. The case of Laken Riley's killer, who had been arrested in New York City but later released, was also discussed. Following the meeting, Homan expressed optimism that New York City would become significantly safer due to the collaborative efforts to address public safety threats posed by individuals residing in the country illegally.
