Amidst the excitement of Ohio State's journey to the College Football Playoff National Championship, a surprising turn of events has unfolded. Sophomore defensive end Caden Davis has been removed from the team, confirmed by Ohio State Sports Information Director Jerry Emig to The Lantern. This news comes just days before the Buckeyes face Notre Dame in Atlanta.
Davis, known for his significant social media following, never recorded a tackle during his time with the Buckeyes. He gained popularity through platforms like TikTok and Instagram, often sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses of the team and his life as a student in Columbus. However, the reasons for his dismissal remain undisclosed by university officials.

Davis's online presence sometimes featured insider looks at the Ohio State football program and facilities. Even as of Wednesday, some of his social media profiles still identified him with the team. An earlier Instagram post, since deleted, seemed to show Davis traveling with the Buckeyes to their semifinal game against Texas, but it was later revealed that the photos were from the previous season's Cotton Bowl game against Missouri.

The Buckeyes secured their spot in the championship game by defeating Oregon in the quarterfinals and Texas in the semifinals. They are aiming for their first national title since the inaugural College Football Playoff in 2014. Their opponent, Notre Dame, advanced by overcoming Georgia and Penn State. The title game is scheduled for January 20th at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
