Oklahoma State Senator and Deputy Clash During Traffic Stop

A traffic stop involving Oklahoma State Senator Regina Goodwin and a Tulsa County Sheriff’s Deputy escalated into a heated verbal exchange on Saturday, January 11, 2025. Body camera footage reveals a tense confrontation between Goodwin and Deputy Freddie Alaniz, stemming from Goodwin allegedly running two stop signs.

The video shows Deputy Alaniz repeatedly requesting Goodwin’s driver’s license, while Goodwin questions the deputy’s actions, accusing him of escalating the situation. Goodwin contends that she was not refusing to provide her license, but engaging in a conversation. Alaniz, however, asserts that he asked for her license multiple times, and her continued questioning constituted refusal.

Following the initial exchange, Alaniz handcuffed Goodwin and placed her in his patrol car. Goodwin’s attorney, Mike Manning, who was present at the scene, intervened, questioning the necessity of the arrest. Alaniz maintained that while he was prepared to issue a citation, Goodwin’s behavior during the stop was unacceptable. He explained to Manning that he observed Goodwin speeding and running two stop signs, and her subsequent demeanor justified his actions.

Alaniz also contacted his supervisor, describing Goodwin’s driving and the events leading up to the arrest. He emphasized the speed at which Goodwin was traveling and her immediate questioning upon being pulled over.
