Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed the deportation of Humberto Romero Avila, a 45-year-old individual with a history of illegal entries into the United States and a pending murder charge in Mexico. Avila, identified as a member of the Paisas prison gang, had illegally crossed the border ten times since 2002.
His extensive criminal record includes larceny, four driving while intoxicated (DWI) convictions, and numerous other offenses committed within the U.S. Avila's most recent arrest for DWI in Shelby County, Texas, in March 2024, led to an ICE detainer and subsequent investigation. During routine background checks, authorities discovered an outstanding warrant for Avila's arrest in connection with the 2007 murder of Geovany Uriel Prado Morales in Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico.
Following a conviction for illegal reentry in January 2025, Avila was sentenced to time served and transferred to ICE custody. His prior deportation order was reinstated, leading to his removal from the United States on January 31, 2025.
Bret Bradford, field office director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in Houston, emphasized the danger Avila posed to public safety, highlighting his lengthy history of disregarding U.S. immigration and criminal laws. Bradford stated that Avila’s deportation significantly enhances public safety and allows him to finally face justice for the alleged murder committed nearly two decades ago.
Avila's deportation coincides with a broader crackdown on criminal illegal immigrants under the Trump administration. Data obtained by Fox News Digital reveals a substantial increase in ICE arrests during early 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
