In a recent interview, Shakira shared the heartbreaking story of how she discovered her ex-partner Gerard Piqué's alleged infidelity while dealing with her father's serious health crisis. The singer, who announced her separation from the former soccer star in June 2022 after 11 years together, described the period as one of the most challenging times in her life.
Shakira revealed that her father suffered a grave injury around the time of the split, requiring him to travel to Barcelona to be with her. "He came to comfort me during a time of immense sadness," she explained. Tragically, while attending her son's first communion, her father was involved in an accident and seriously injured. "It felt like everything was falling apart. I was learning about the betrayal through the media while my dad was in intensive care," she shared, admitting that she felt like she wouldn't survive the ordeal.

Shakira described the recovery process for her 91-year-old father as "slow and arduous," involving overcoming COVID-19, pneumonia, two accidents, and five surgeries within a six-month period. She praised her parents as incredible examples of resilience and unwavering love, serving as role models for her children despite the personal heartbreak she experienced.

Following the split, Shakira released the hit song "BZRP Music Session #53," widely interpreted as a response to the alleged infidelity. During an appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," Shakira discussed the song's significance, calling it an anthem for women who have experienced similar situations. She emphasized that writing the song was a cathartic process and a way to express her emotions. "It wasn't just for me," she explained. "It was for so many women who needed a voice."

Shakira and Piqué share two children, Milan and Sasha.
