A small aircraft crashed into the waters of northern Lake Michigan near Beaver Island on Friday, resulting in a fatality and one injury, according to reports from the Coast Guard and local news. A Coast Guard helicopter, coincidentally conducting training in the vicinity, swiftly responded to the crash scene. One individual was rescued from the water, Lt. Phillip Gurtler confirmed in a phone interview. The survivor reported another person trapped within the submerged wreckage. Divers from the Charlevoix County Sheriff’s Office located the second individual, who was unresponsive, Gurtler stated. WWTV/WWUP-TV reported the second person did not survive.
