Former Boston Red Sox player Will Middlebrooks shared a touching tribute on social media for his close friend, former NFL quarterback Ryan Mallett, who tragically passed away in an apparent drowning accident in Florida. Middlebrooks expressed his deep sorrow, referring to Mallett as his "best friend" and sharing photos of them together, some from Mallett's time with the New England Patriots.

Middlebrooks described Mallett as a highly competitive, determined, and fun-loving individual, emphasizing the profound impact of his loss. He also shared a heartfelt message from his mother, Julie Procell Middlebrooks, who considered Mallett like a son and fondly remembered his birthday calls and expressions of love.

According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Mallett was pulled from the water in Destin, Florida and was unresponsive. Despite resuscitation attempts, he was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The incident occurred while a group, including Mallett, struggled to return to shore from a sandbar.

Numerous tributes for Mallett appeared online following the news of his passing. Tom Brady, Mallett's former teammate, expressed his condolences, calling him a "great man." Mallett's football career began at Arkansas, leading to his selection by the Patriots in the 2011 NFL Draft. He later played for the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens.
