A chilling video shared by Altadena residents Jeffrey and Cheryll Ku reveals the sheer terror they faced as the Eaton Fire encroached upon their home on January 7th. The footage, captured by their Ring doorbell camera, documents their frantic escape as the wildfire raged nearby.
The Kus' experience, which they described on social media as "34 minutes of pure terror," showcases the urgency and fear that gripped many Los Angeles residents forced to evacuate during the devastating wildfires. In an Instagram post, Jeffrey Ku recounted the rapid deterioration of the situation: strong winds, power outages, and the struggle to gather essential belongings as smoke filled the air and embers rained down.

The video depicts Cheryll Ku's desperate calls to her husband, urging him to act quickly as the fire approached. The footage then shows the couple rushing in and out of their house, grabbing what they could while the sky glowed an ominous orange. Jeffrey Ku's prayers for their safety and the preservation of their home are audible amidst the chaos.

While the Kus' home survived the fire, Jeffrey acknowledged the devastation suffered by others who lost everything. He also expressed his deep appreciation for the tireless efforts of the first responders battling the blaze. The Los Angeles wildfires, which have claimed at least 24 lives and displaced thousands, continue to pose a significant threat. Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley issued a warning about the ongoing danger of "life-threatening and destructive" winds, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance and rapid response to any new outbreaks.
