Aurora Apartment Home Invasion: Police Suspect Gang Involvement in Attack on Venezuelan Migrants

In the early hours of Tuesday, Aurora, Colorado police responded to a violent home invasion at The Edge at Lowry Apartments. Around 2:30 a.m., a group of 13 to 15 individuals, primarily men, forced their way into an apartment occupied by two people. The suspects then abducted the residents, who are believed to be Venezuelan migrants, and moved them to another unit within the same complex. There, the victims were reportedly bound, assaulted, and threatened.

One of the victims, a male, suffered a stab wound but is expected to recover. Both victims remain hospitalized for treatment. Police Chief Todd Chamberlain described the attack as "torture," noting the victims were pistol-whipped and beaten.

Chief Chamberlain strongly believes the incident is gang-related, although the specific affiliation remains unclear. He acknowledged a possible connection to the Tren de Aragua (TdA) gang, a notorious Venezuelan criminal organization, but refrained from definitively naming them pending further investigation. The Edge at Lowry Apartments has been a focal point for law enforcement due to prior gang activity, including an incident this past summer involving armed individuals, suspected to be TdA members, recorded on video in the building's common areas. Chamberlain indicated that some individuals involved in the summer incident have likely left the area.
