De'Vondre Campbell Unleashes Profanity-Laced Rant Over 49ers Suspension

Former San Francisco 49ers linebacker De’Vondre Campbell launched a scathing attack on social media regarding his three-game suspension stemming from a refusal to play in a Week 15 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams last season. Campbell, who joined the 49ers on a one-year contract in March 2024, shared a video clip of former Atlanta Falcons special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong, praising Armstrong’s coaching style and lamenting the perceived softening of player management in the current NFL.

This social media post drew criticism from fans who pointed out Campbell's refusal to play in the 12-6 loss to the Rams. Campbell responded with a series of strongly worded posts, expressing his frustration with the ongoing criticism and defending his decision. He directly addressed critics within the 49ers organization, challenging them to confront him in person. He also criticized broadcast analysts for accepting the 49ers' version of events without contacting him for his perspective.

The incident occurred when head coach Kyle Shanahan tried to substitute Campbell into the game for an injured Dre Greenlaw. Campbell refused, and Shanahan later stated he never received an explanation. General manager John Lynch subsequently announced Campbell's three-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team. In his recent rant, Campbell maintained his stance, declaring his financial independence and emphasizing that he plays football solely by choice. He reiterated that he communicated this to Shanahan and Lynch when they contacted him after his release from the Green Bay Packers. Prior to his time with the 49ers, Campbell played for the Packers, Arizona Cardinals, and Atlanta Falcons.
