Indianapolis City-County Council member Keith Potts has announced his candidacy for the open U.S. Senate seat in Indiana, becoming the second Democrat to challenge Republican frontrunner Jim Banks. Potts joins former state lawmaker Marc Carmichael in seeking the Democratic nomination for the seat being vacated by Senator Mike Braun, who is running for governor in 2024.
Potts, who served on the Indianapolis council from 2019 and did not seek re-election this year, is highlighting key issues such as affordable healthcare, abortion rights, and Social Security protection. He enters the race against Banks, a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump and a prominent figure in the Republican party.

Carmichael, a former state representative from 1986 to 1991 and a longtime lobbyist for the Indiana Beverage Alliance, announced his candidacy last month. While no other prominent Democrats have entered the race, Banks has already garnered significant support within the Republican party.
