Legendary entertainer Donny Osmond is set to make history by sharing the stage with a younger version of himself, thanks to groundbreaking AI and CGI technology. In a recent Instagram video, Osmond excitedly announced to fans that he'll be performing alongside his 14-year-old self from 1972 during his Las Vegas residency.
A sneak peek of this innovative technology shows Osmond sitting beside his teenage self, dressed in 70s attire. The two Donnys engage in a playful conversation about who the "real" Donny Osmond is. The older Osmond asks his younger counterpart what it's like to sing with himself 50 years in the future. The younger Donny quips that it's similar to singing with his grandpa, to which the older Osmond replies, "I am your grandpa. You're my grandson, Daxton Osmond."
With a snap of his fingers, the AI filter disappears, revealing Osmond's grandson, Daxton. Daxton acknowledges his true identity before snapping his own fingers and reactivating the filter, transforming back into the young Donny Osmond. "But I do like to be Donny Osmond," the younger version adds with a smile. The 1972 Donny Osmond exclaims, "The future’s so fun!" The present-day Osmond agrees, adding, "It’s incredible. This is something you’re not going to want to miss."
Osmond has previously expressed his enthusiasm for AI's potential, emphasizing its role as a valuable tool for artists and producers. He believes AI offers exciting possibilities when used correctly. Last year, he stated that AI should be seen as a tool to enhance creativity, not replace it. He highlighted its benefits in production and artistic endeavors.
Prior to this reveal, Osmond teased fans about a new co-star for his residency, hinting that the individual was a talented singer, an Osmond family member, and possibly the best-dressed Osmond. Osmond's long-running Las Vegas residency with his sister Marie concluded in 2019 after over a decade. His current solo residency at Harrah’s Las Vegas Showroom began in 2021 and is scheduled to continue until June of this year. Osmond achieved teen idol status in the early 1970s with hits like "Puppy Love" and "I Knew You When." He and Marie Osmond also hosted the popular television variety show "Donny & Marie" from 1976 to 1979.
