Former President Donald Trump has nominated Ed Martin, the interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, to officially lead the office. During his interim tenure, Martin oversaw the dismissal of several January 6th cases following pardons and commutations issued by Trump. He also filed a motion to lift remaining restrictions on some individuals involved in the January 6th events, including limitations on their access to Washington, D.C., and the Capitol building. Martin argued that these individuals had completed their commuted sentences and should not face further restrictions.

Beyond his involvement in January 6th related matters, Martin has expressed a strong commitment to pursuing legal action against anyone obstructing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in its cost-cutting initiatives. He made this vow in a letter addressed to Elon Musk following public concerns about potential threats against DOGE staff. Martin reiterated his stance against threats targeting public officials, emphasizing that such behavior would not be tolerated in the capital.
