Enhanced Security Measures in Place for Super Bowl LIX Following New Orleans Terrorist Attack

In the wake of the tragic January 1st terrorist attack on Bourbon Street, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) is implementing heightened security protocols for Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. Eric DeLaune, Special Agent in Charge of HSI New Orleans and lead federal coordinator for the Super Bowl, emphasized that the city's unique layout and the recent attack present specific challenges. He told Fox News Digital that preparations began a year ago, but the attack has necessitated adjustments and increased vigilance.

DeLaune revealed he has doubled his request for tactical resources and assets from the Department of Homeland Security following the attack, which resulted in 14 fatalities and 57 injuries. Attendees can expect a more visible presence of HSI special agents and tactical teams throughout the city, especially in the French Quarter and downtown areas.

While President Donald Trump's expected presence at the Super Bowl doesn't drastically alter the security approach, it will contribute to a stronger overall security posture due to the increased federal law enforcement presence. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed there are currently no credible threats to the event.

Attorney General Pam Bondi will also be in New Orleans to assess security measures alongside Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry. HSI agents from nine southeastern states, who specialize in high-risk criminal activity, regularly train for various threat scenarios, including those relevant to large public gatherings like the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras.
