After dedicating six years to Indiana University football, Mike Katic has chosen a different path, stepping away from his NFL ambitions to embrace a career in sports media with Barstool Sports. Initially declaring for the NFL Draft last year before opting to return to Indiana for his final year of eligibility, the former center is now embarking on a new chapter as a media personality and analyst.
Katic expressed his enthusiasm for this transition during an appearance on "The Yak" with Dan "Big Cat" Katz, stating, "I'm thrilled. I feel like this is what I was meant to do. Football has been amazing, but I believe this is my true calling. I'm incredibly excited to join the team."

While his official start date isn't until March 1st, Katic recently visited Barstool's offices and had a memorable encounter with Jon Gruden, the Super Bowl-winning coach who recently joined the platform. Their initial interaction was captured in a video posted by Gruden on X, showcasing the coach's excitement about Katic's arrival. Gruden promptly had Katic assume a lineman's stance, followed by handshakes and a hug. Katic also shared the moment on X, emphasizing his eagerness to learn from the legendary coach.

Katic's decision seemed imminent following Indiana's College Football Playoff loss to Notre Dame, as he posted a message of gratitude to Indiana University and football on X, suggesting the end of his playing career. Projected as a potential late-round draft pick, Katic received positive recognition from Pro Football Focus, ranking him as the 10th best center among Power Five conferences.

Katic's path to Barstool was facilitated by a connection within the Indiana men's basketball program, leading to Dave Portnoy offering him a position after seeing him in just a few media appearances. The Pittsburgh native, who played in 50 games for the Hoosiers, will be based in Barstool's Chicago office.
