Gary Sinise Honored with Charlie Daniels Patriot Award for Veteran Support

The Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project, a Tennessee-based nonprofit, recently celebrated raising over $500,000 for U.S. military veterans. The organization also presented its 2022 Charlie Daniels Patriot Award to acclaimed actor Gary Sinise, recognizing his unwavering dedication to supporting those who have served.

The Journey Home Project, co-founded by the late country music icon Charlie Daniels and his longtime manager David Corlew, connects veterans with resources and support as they transition back to civilian life. The organization works with other nonprofits to secure funding for vital veteran causes.

Sinise, deeply moved by the honor, expressed his gratitude, stating, "To receive an award in his [Charlie Daniels'] name is a blessing, a privilege, an honor." Corlew personally presented the award to Sinise, emphasizing the importance of recognizing individuals who consistently champion the needs of veterans and first responders.

Corlew highlighted the significance of honoring veterans, reminding us that less than 1% of the American population protects the freedoms and safety of the remaining 99%. He stressed the often-overlooked generational impact of war, including the struggles with PTSD, TBI, and suicide that affect veterans and their families.

The Journey Home Project selected Sinise for this award due to his exemplary commitment to veteran support. His work extends beyond his successful entertainment career, utilizing his platform to advocate for and assist those who have served. Corlew described Sinise as setting the “high-water mark” for veteran support, inspiring others through his selfless service.

The Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project, founded in 2014, continues its mission to support American patriots, particularly during their transition from military to civilian life.
