An Orlando police officer is facing charges and internal investigation after a high-speed chase involving a Seminole County Sheriff's deputy. Officer Alexander Shaouni was allegedly driving a marked police vehicle at 80 mph in a 45 mph zone when a deputy attempted to pull him over. Dashcam footage shows the deputy pursuing Shaouni at speeds exceeding 100 mph.
After Shaouni eventually stopped, a heated exchange ensued. He argued that he was on his way to work, questioning the deputy's actions. Despite wearing his police uniform, Shaouni refused to provide his driver's license and sped off again.
Authorities identified Shaouni through his badge and vehicle. He now faces charges of resisting an officer, reckless driving, and fleeing law enforcement. The Orlando Police Department has relieved Shaouni of duty pending both the Sheriff's criminal investigation and an internal affairs investigation.
The incident has raised concerns about police conduct and accountability. The Orlando Police Department released a statement confirming their awareness of the incident and the subsequent charges against Shaouni.
