Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar expressed strong disapproval of Democrats who attended former President Donald Trump's inauguration. In a recent CNN interview, the progressive congresswoman questioned the attendance of Democratic leaders, citing Trump's alleged disregard for political opponents and democratic norms. She argued that attending the inauguration signaled an undeserved level of respect.

Omar had previously voiced her concerns on social media, contrasting the public's criticism of artists attending the event with the lack of similar outcry directed at politicians. She emphasized that these politicians, who had previously labeled Trump a threat to democracy, should be the focus of public disapproval.
During the CNN interview, Omar highlighted the irony of prominent Democrats, including President Biden and Vice President Harris, attending Trump's inauguration, given Trump's own absence from Biden's inauguration and his break from the tradition of inviting the incoming first family to the White House. While acknowledging Biden's patriotism, Omar questioned the large number of Democratic leaders present at the event, suggesting it sent a conflicting message. She questioned why figures like former President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would choose to attend, given their past criticisms of Trump.

Omar ultimately argued that the significant Democratic presence at the inauguration undermined the party's message about Trump's alleged threat to democracy.
