Illinois Governor and Incoming Border Czar Clash Over Deportation Plans

A clash is brewing between Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and incoming border czar Tom Homan over the latter's proposed deportation efforts. Homan, speaking at a Republican event in Chicago, outlined plans to deport millions of undocumented immigrants, a move that would significantly impact Illinois. While Pritzker agrees with deporting violent criminals, he expressed concerns about the broader scope of Homan's plan.

Homan has stated that no one is exempt from potential deportation, though prioritizing public safety threats. He specifically named Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, warning of potential prosecution if they impede deportation efforts or harbor undocumented individuals. Pritzker has indicated his willingness to meet with Homan or the incoming administration, but claims no contact has been made.

Illinois Republicans are urging Pritzker to cooperate with Homan and repeal the state's sanctuary laws, which limit law enforcement collaboration with ICE. Current data reveals 1.4 million noncitizens have deportation orders but remain outside ICE detention. The leading nationalities on this list include individuals from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, as well as significant numbers from China, Haiti, Iran, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, and Venezuela.
