Months after actor Julian Sands' disappearance during a hike in January, his family has released their first public statement, expressing gratitude for the tireless efforts of search teams while cherishing fond memories.
"Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the dedicated search teams and coordinators who have relentlessly pursued Julian's whereabouts," the family shared on Twitter. "We continue to hold Julian close in our thoughts, remembering him as a remarkable father, husband, explorer, and lover of both the natural world and the arts. He was a truly original and collaborative performer."
Sands, 65, vanished on January 13th while hiking Mount Baldy in California. The search, which was temporarily suspended due to severe weather conditions, resumed on June 17th. Despite the renewed efforts of over 80 search and rescue volunteers, Sands remains missing. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department stated that treacherous alpine conditions, including deep snow and inaccessible ravines, continue to hamper the search. While the search remains classified as a rescue mission, authorities acknowledge the ongoing challenges.
Earlier this year, Sands' brother, Nick Sands, shared with the BBC that he had accepted the possibility of his brother's passing and had already said his goodbyes. However, the family's recent statement indicates they are still holding onto hope.
Sands is a celebrated actor known for his roles in films like "The Killing Fields," "A Room With A View," "Leaving Las Vegas," and "Warlock." His extensive filmography also includes appearances in "Ocean's 13," "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," and "Arachnophobia." Sands is married to Evgenia Citkowitz, with whom he has two daughters.
