Amidst the controversy surrounding flag etiquette during President Trump's inauguration, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has declared his intention to fly the MAGA flag at the Governor's Mansion. This decision contrasts with President Biden's order for flags to be flown at half-staff on federal properties for 30 days in mourning of former President Jimmy Carter, a period coinciding with the inauguration.
Governor Landry extended an invitation to others to join him in displaying the Trump flag on Inauguration Day. This move follows Speaker Mike Johnson's announcement that flags at the US Capitol would be at full-staff for the inauguration, before returning to half-staff the next day to honor President Carter.
This difference in protocol comes after President Biden's order, which aligns with tradition following a president's death. Former President Trump responded to the order on Truth Social, suggesting that Democrats were pleased about the flags being at half-staff during his inauguration, claiming they "don't love our Country." He added, "Nobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it."
It's worth noting that flags were also at half-staff during former President Nixon's second inauguration in 1973, following his order to lower them after the death of former President Truman. This historical precedent adds another layer to the current situation.
Fox News Digital has contacted Governor Landry's office for further comment.
