New York Man Sentenced for Brutal New Year's Day Murder of Long Island Woman

A 25-year-old Brooklyn man, Kisjonne Campbell, received a sentence of 20 years to life for the murder of 21-year-old Michaelle Jaccis in West Babylon, Long Island, on New Year's Day 2022. Campbell pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in May.

The tragic events unfolded when Campbell initially approached the Jaccis residence, inquiring about a taxi number with the victim's younger brother. Shortly after this encounter, Campbell attacked Michaelle Jaccis outside her home, fatally stabbing her. The victim's brothers witnessed the brutal assault and immediately contacted emergency services.

Law enforcement swiftly apprehended Campbell, who matched the description provided by witnesses. He was found attempting to flee the scene. The victim's 15-year-old brother identified Campbell as both the individual who asked for the taxi number and the assailant. A knife with a broken tip, discovered nearby, correlated with a metal fragment recovered from the victim's skull during the autopsy. A ski mask containing Campbell's DNA further solidified his connection to the crime.

During a police interview, Campbell admitted to a prior relationship with Jaccis and confirmed traveling to her home from a shelter. While he confessed to a physical altercation and punching the victim, he claimed to have blacked out after the initial assault, despite carrying a long knife. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney expressed the severity of the crime, emphasizing the lack of justification for Campbell's violent actions and the appropriateness of the sentence.
