Parents Clash with Counter-Protesters at LA Elementary School Pride Assembly

Tensions flared outside Saticoy Elementary School in North Hollywood, California, as parents protesting a school-sponsored Pride assembly clashed with counter-protesters, some of whom were identified as members of Antifa. A parent, identified only as George due to safety concerns, told Fox News Digital that the protesting parents were “caught off guard” by the presence of the counter-protesters, some of whom wore masks and displayed Antifa symbols. He described the counter-protesters as aggressive and stated that several attacks occurred against peaceful protesters.

The June 2nd protest stemmed from parental concerns over the assembly's inclusion of the book "The Great Big Book of Families," which features depictions of LGBTQ+ families. Some parents expressed discomfort with the book's content, feeling it was inappropriate for young children. The Associated Press reported that those opposing the assembly outnumbered supporters. Many protesters wore shirts with slogans such as "No Pride in Grooming" and "Leave our kids alone."

George emphasized the parents' desire to have their voices heard by the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), stressing their right to be involved in decisions affecting their children's education. He expressed hope for a constructive dialogue with the district to find a resolution that respects parental concerns and ensures the safety and well-being of students. He specifically mentioned wanting an alternative that allows parents to send their children to school without fear of encountering radical groups.

In response to the incident, LAUSD released a statement reiterating its commitment to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students, while also emphasizing its dedication to diversity and inclusivity. The district also stated that the Los Angeles School Police Department would increase patrols around the school campus as a precautionary measure.
