The White House announced on Thursday that President Biden plans to nominate Joshua Kolar, a federal magistrate judge in northern Indiana, to the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Currently stationed in Hammond, Judge Kolar has served on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana since 2019.
Prior to his role as a magistrate judge, Kolar served as an assistant U.S. attorney in the same district from 2007 to 2018. During the latter part of this tenure, from 2015 to 2018, he held the position of lead attorney for national security.

In addition to his judicial experience, Kolar holds the rank of lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve, a position he's held since 2009. He also served on active duty in Afghanistan from 2014 to 2015. Kolar earned his law degree from Northwestern University in 2003. The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, to which he is nominated, presides over cases from Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin.
