Kentucky Senator Rand Paul has announced his intention to vote against the confirmation of former Representative Lori Chavez-DeRemer as Labor Secretary, a nominee put forward by former President Donald Trump. Paul believes Chavez-DeRemer will not garner enough Republican support to secure the position, speculating a loss of 15 Republican votes while potentially gaining support from 25 Democrats, or perhaps even the entire Democratic caucus.

Originally nominated last year, Chavez-DeRemer was praised by Trump for her collaborative work with businesses and labor organizations to bolster the American workforce. At the time of her nomination, American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten expressed cautious optimism, noting Chavez-DeRemer's apparent support for workers' rights and collective bargaining, hoping it signaled a shift in the Trump administration's approach towards labor relations.

Chavez-DeRemer, who served a single term in the House representing Oregon from 2023 to 2025, lost her re-election bid in 2024. Senator Paul's opposition stems from Chavez-DeRemer's backing of the PRO Act, which he argues would override state "right to work" laws.

Fox News Digital's request for comment from the White House regarding Senator Paul's opposition was not answered by the time of publication.
