Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr, a known critic of former President Donald Trump, admitted to skipping the presidential inauguration to prepare for the team's game against the Boston Celtics. Before the matchup, Kerr confirmed to reporters that he opted to review game footage rather than watch the inauguration ceremonies. He also expressed his appreciation for playing on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Ironically, the Warriors suffered their worst home loss under Kerr's leadership that day, falling to the Celtics 125-85. Kerr's history of outspoken criticism of Trump is well-documented. During the 2024 election cycle, he actively campaigned for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, even addressing the Democratic National Convention.

At the convention, Kerr urged attendees to vote and expressed hope that Trump would be defeated. However, Trump ultimately won the election, securing a non-consecutive second term. Despite his past criticisms, Kerr later stated his desire for Trump and the country to succeed during the subsequent presidential term.
