Tropical Storm Calvin is poised to closely approach Hawaii's Big Island on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing with it the threat of heavy rainfall, powerful winds, and high surf, according to the National Weather Service. As of Monday, the storm was tracking westward at approximately 20 mph, with sustained winds reaching 50 mph.
Residents of Hawaii County are urged to make preparations for potential impacts, including flash floods, mudslides, damaging winds, and hazardous surf conditions. These conditions are expected to intensify as tropical-storm-force winds begin later on Tuesday.

Forecasts predict rainfall totals of 4 to 8 inches are possible on the windward side of the island. As Calvin continues its westward trajectory, it is anticipated to weaken as it passes south of the other Hawaiian Islands on Wednesday.
