Undocumented Immigrant Arrested in San Antonio for Murder of Elderly Partner

San Antonio police have apprehended a 26-year-old man, Alberto Rafael Ferrer Cabrera, believed to be residing in the U.S. illegally, for the alleged murder of his 81-year-old partner. Cabrera's arrest took place on Saturday, following the discovery of his deceased partner. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed Cabrera's undocumented status and indicated that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed a detainer on him.

According to court documents, Cabrera has confessed to the crime. Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement found the 81-year-old victim with fatal stab wounds. Cabrera is currently facing charges of murder and illegal entry into the United States. Investigators are actively working to establish a motive for the tragic incident.

The ICE detainer authorizes authorities to hold Cabrera for a maximum of 48 hours, providing the Department of Homeland Security with the necessary time to assume custody, in accordance with federal immigration regulations. This detainer allows ICE to assess whether Cabrera will be transferred to federal custody for potential deportation.

This incident coincides with a broader ICE operation over the weekend, resulting in the apprehension of over 700 individuals suspected of being in the country illegally. More than 500 of those arrested have prior convictions or pending charges. These actions reflect the ongoing efforts of the Trump administration to prioritize the deportation of individuals deemed public safety threats, while also targeting those without criminal records.

Recent policy changes have empowered ICE agents by removing previous limitations on accessing areas like schools and churches. Furthermore, the administration has terminated Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for over 300,000 individuals, reversing Biden-era extensions that shielded certain nationalities from deportation.
