Yankees' Star Slugger Aaron Judge Sidelined with Torn Toe Ligament, Return Uncertain

New York Yankees powerhouse Aaron Judge will be out of commission for an extended period due to a torn ligament in his right big toe, sustained on June 3rd after colliding with the outfield wall during a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Judge, the reigning American League MVP, revealed the diagnosis to reporters on Saturday, expressing the challenge of predicting a return timeline for such an unusual injury.

Judge acknowledged the rarity of the injury, stating, "It's not like a quad or hamstring where there's a typical recovery period. This is my back foot, crucial for pushing off and running, making it a difficult situation." He declined to offer a specific return date, emphasizing the need to focus on healing before considering a comeback.

The Yankees reported earlier this week that Judge had received a second plasma injection in his toe and was responding positively. Manager Aaron Boone expressed optimism about Judge's eventual return this season, though he stopped short of a firm guarantee. Boone noted that Judge's activity level is gradually increasing, but he's still unable to run or perform full baseball activities.

The Yankees have faced difficulties in June, losing a significant number of games since Judge's injury. The home run record holder admitted that pain persists even while walking, preventing him from running and contributing to the team. He stressed the importance of regaining balance and weight transfer in his swing, which relies heavily on the big toe. Until he can overcome this hurdle, running and hitting remain out of reach.
