Texas Longhorns fans heading to the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl to watch their team face Arizona State will notice a key absence on the sidelines: Bevo XV, the team's beloved mascot. Peach Bowl organizers recently confirmed that Bevo will not be making the trip to Atlanta for the College Football Playoff game.
Citing logistical challenges and safety concerns at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Peach Bowl released a statement explaining their decision. The limited sideline space, combined with the need to ensure the safety of players, personnel, media, and fans, led to the conclusion that accommodating Bevo would not be feasible.
This isn't the first time Bevo has been excluded from a major game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The iconic longhorn was also barred from attending the SEC Championship game between Texas and Georgia at the same venue. This decision follows a previous incident where Bevo broke through a barricade at the Sugar Bowl, nearly coming into contact with Georgia's mascot, Uga, and nearby spectators.
Texas enters the Peach Bowl following a decisive victory over Clemson in the first round of the playoffs. Quarterback Quinn Ewers had a solid performance, throwing for over 200 yards and a touchdown, while running backs Jaydon Blue and Quintrevion Wisner both surpassed 100 rushing yards.
