The U.S. Coast Guard has successfully intercepted a massive drug shipment, estimated to be worth $158 million, during a series of operations in the Pacific Ocean. The drugs, which included over 11,600 pounds of cocaine and 5,500 pounds of marijuana, were offloaded in San Diego on Monday by the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Steadfast.
The interdiction efforts, carried out between May and July, involved the coordinated work of several Coast Guard cutters, including the Vigilant, Mohawk, and Steadfast. These patrols focused on disrupting the flow of narcotics in the Eastern Pacific. Rear Admiral Andrew Sugimoto, commander of the Coast Guard's Eleventh District, praised the crews for their dedication and success in preventing a substantial amount of illegal drugs from entering the United States. He emphasized their unwavering commitment to intercepting drug traffickers at sea.
During a press conference, Lieutenant Cecelia Hosley revealed that at least 14 individuals were apprehended during the seizures. These individuals are now in the custody of the Drug Enforcement Agency for further legal proceedings.
