Dave Matthews Withdraws from FireAid Concert Due to Family Emergency

Musician Dave Matthews has cancelled his appearance at the FireAid benefit concert scheduled for Thursday, citing a "critical illness" within his family. The announcement was made via the Dave Matthews Band's official Instagram account on Wednesday. Matthews has also withdrawn from the MusiCares Person of the Year tribute concert honoring the Grateful Dead, which is set for Friday.

The FireAid concert aims to raise funds for victims of the recent devastating Los Angeles wildfires. The MusiCares event, organized by a non-profit that provides financial, medical, and personal support to musicians, will also benefit from the fundraising efforts.

The FireAid concert was quickly organized following the destructive fires that ravaged Los Angeles communities earlier this month. A star-studded lineup of performers is still scheduled, including Alanis Morissette, Billie Eilish, Earth, Wind & Fire, Gracie Abrams, Green Day, Jelly Roll, John Fogerty, Joni Mitchell, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Lil Baby, No Doubt, Olivia Rodrigo, Pink, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rod Stewart, Stevie Nicks, Stevie Wonder, Sting, Tate McRae, and The Black Crowes.

Matthews was originally slated to perform alongside John Mayer at the Kia Forum. Following the announcement, Mayer expressed his support on Instagram, stating that he would be sending "all my love to Dave, who will be there in spirit."

The Recording Academy, the organization behind the Grammy Awards, initiated the Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort with a $1 million contribution, and an additional $1 million in emergency aid has been distributed. The fires tragically claimed the lives of over two dozen individuals and displaced thousands from their homes.
