DeSantis Vows Strong Action Against Drug Traffickers at US Border

In a recent interview with Fox News, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis outlined a firm stance against drug smuggling across the U.S. border, promising a robust federal response if elected president in 2024. He emphasized a commitment to utilizing "deadly force" in specific circumstances, drawing a stark contrast with the current administration's border policies, which he and other Republicans have criticized as lax.

DeSantis reiterated his intention to empower border patrol agents to defend against individuals attempting to breach the border with illicit substances. He stressed the urgency of the situation, citing the devastating impact of fentanyl trafficking, which has claimed thousands of American lives. His plan includes reinforcing existing border barriers and constructing new ones to bolster security.

Highlighting the efforts of Texas Governor Greg Abbott, DeSantis commended his work to secure the border against federal resistance. He shared observations from his own visits to the border, emphasizing the need for decisive action against cartels who exploit vulnerabilities in the existing wall. He underscored his commitment to protecting American sovereignty and citizens from the dangers of drug trafficking.

DeSantis proposed clear rules of engagement, stating that individuals attempting to breach the border with harmful drugs would face severe consequences. He blamed current federal policies for empowering Mexican cartels and allowing them to control the border, emphasizing the role of state governments in stepping up to address the issue.

Furthermore, DeSantis addressed the possibility of employing maritime operations to combat drug smuggling, particularly relevant to Florida's extensive coastline. He also discussed potential plans for restructuring federal agencies, including the Departments of Education, Commerce, Energy, and the IRS, aiming to reduce the size and scope of government. If unable to eliminate these agencies outright, he expressed his intention to combat what he perceives as "woke ideology" and "leftism" within them.
