Giants' Slayton Defends Taylor After Social Media Slight

New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton recently came to the defense of teammate Tyrod Taylor after a social media user made an unfavorable comparison between Taylor and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. Slayton took to Twitter to express his disagreement, stating that Taylor's lack of a starting role wasn't due to his abilities but rather a result of a past injury.

In 2020, while playing for the Los Angeles Chargers, Taylor suffered a punctured lung during a pain-killing injection for cracked ribs. This unfortunate incident led to rookie Justin Herbert taking over as the starter, effectively sidelining Taylor for the rest of the season. He later sued the team doctor for medical malpractice.

Taylor's subsequent stints with the Houston Texans and now the Giants have seen him face further setbacks, including a hamstring injury. He signed with the Giants in 2022 on a two-year deal.

This isn't the first time Slayton has publicly defended a teammate. He also recently spoke up for running back Saquon Barkley after Barkley failed to secure a long-term contract extension, drawing an analogy to marriage and the commitment expected in such a relationship. Barkley had a strong 2022 season, playing a full 16 games for the first time since his rookie year and earning a Pro Bowl selection.
