Nebraska Inmate's Church Trip Turns into 4-Year Disappearance

A minimum-security inmate in Nebraska exploited a one-hour church pass in May 2019, vanishing for four years before being apprehended last month. Antonio Collier, the escapee, was located 800 miles away in Roseville, Michigan, and arrested on June 10th on a felony escape warrant.

Approximately an hour after his pass expired, Collier reportedly informed correctional officers about car trouble causing his delay. However, he never returned to the Community Corrections Center-Lincoln, where he was serving time for felony burglary. He had a parole hearing scheduled for February 2020.

Collier is currently held in Macomb County Jail, Mount Clemens, Michigan, awaiting extradition to Nebraska. Authorities have not disclosed how he was found. He will complete his original four-to-five-year burglary sentence, now projected to end in September 2024, followed by prosecution for the escape, a class three felony in Nebraska carrying a potential two-to-four-year sentence.

The facility Collier escaped from is one of two community custody facilities in Nebraska. These centers permit low-level inmates unsupervised leave for work, education, and religious services with approved passes for designated timeframes.
