A devastating incident unfolded Tuesday evening near a Towson, Maryland funeral home, claiming one life and leaving nine others injured. Baltimore County authorities confirmed the mass shooting occurred around 7:15 p.m. on Loch Raven Boulevard, close to the Johnson Funeral Home.
According to Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough, officers arrived to find a burning vehicle overturned. While the connection remains unclear, Chief McCullough indicated the car's fiery crash likely stemmed from an earlier incident. Among the ten individuals discovered at the scene, one tragically succumbed to a gunshot wound, while the majority of the remaining nine suffered firearm-related injuries.
The nine surviving victims were immediately transported to local trauma centers. The extent of their injuries remains undisclosed, and authorities have yet to release details about the victims' identities. Chief McCullough stated that the investigation is ongoing, but preliminary findings suggest a targeted, isolated attack, with the individuals involved possibly acquainted with each other.
As of Tuesday night, no arrests have been made. Chief McCullough pledged a thorough investigation, assuring the community that such violence is uncommon in Baltimore County. Baltimore County Fire Chief Joe Dixon commended the swift response of firefighters, who extinguished the car fire and provided immediate medical assistance to the victims.
Chief Dixon emphasized the strong collaboration between the police and fire departments. County Executive Johnny Olszewski, also the Representative-elect for Maryland's 2nd Congressional District, expressed shock at the unusual nature of the violence for Baltimore County and pledged full support and resources for the ongoing investigation.
