WNBA legend Lisa Leslie recently offered some direct feedback to rising star Angel Reese during an appearance on Reese's podcast, "Unapologetically Angel." Leslie, a three-time WNBA MVP, focused on a key area for improvement in Reese's game: her layup technique.
"The biggest advice I have for you is going to be how you shoot your layups, period. We're going to fix that. That's fixable for you," Leslie stated.
While suggesting improvements to Reese's finishing at the basket, Leslie also highlighted the young player's strengths, praising her improving outside shot, ball-handling skills, and defensive pressure. Leslie was particularly impressed with Reese's eagerness to learn and improve. "Hearing you, and like… yes ‘I want to learn. I want to work hard. I want to be better,’ my heart melted," Leslie shared. "The fact that you already have that attitude, you're going to get better. And I can help you get better. I'm positive."
Reese's rookie season in the WNBA was remarkable, breaking several league records. The former LSU star achieved 15 consecutive double-doubles, the longest such streak in WNBA history. However, her layup percentage of 42.2% last season indicated room for improvement in her finishing ability.
Reese averaged 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game in 2024, with an overall field goal percentage of 39.1%. Despite her individual success, the Chicago Sky finished the season with a 13-27 record and missed the playoffs. Following the season, the team parted ways with coach Teresa Weatherspoon, a decision that Reese expressed sadness over.
